Prior to the impression taking
In order to ensure your impression taking process runs smoothly there are a few steps you can take prior to the appointment. You can visit your local chemist in order to purchase ear drops or visit our accessories page to purchase ear products.
The Impression taking process
It is important to answer any initial questions the audiologist may have on the day to the best of your ability as this will ensure your safety. You may experience some minor sensations such as itching or tickling during the process but this is perfectly normal.
Stage 1 After a few initial questions, an inspection of your ears will be carried out by a trained operative to ensure it is safe to proceed.
Stage 2 A small foam stop is inserted part way into the ear to protect the ear drum from the impression material. Your ears are then inspected again before mvoing onto stage 3.
Stage 3 Medical grade silicone material is then dispensed slowly into the ear, filling the cavity and capturing the internal shape. You will experience a significant reduction in your hearing and a sensation of fullness in your ears whilst the material cures.
Stage 4 The impression material takes approximately 5 minutes to cure.
Stage 5 Once set, we ask you to wiggle your jaw. Following this the mould is carefully removed from the ear, along with the foam stop. Briefly after this your hearing and senses fully return, after which our specialist will then check your ears one last time.
